Leza Howie is an emerging interdisciplinary artist based in Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia. Her practice explores how time is experienced, remembered and embodied through people, place and material, inviting audiences to slow down and consider the quiet moments that shape our lives before they pass unnoticed.

Working across painting, installation, sculpture, handmade paper, ceramics, printmaking, photography, moving image, sound and electronic media, Leza creates immersive works that examine memory, care and our relationships with both human and more-than-human worlds. Her process-led practice is grounded in experimentation, material research and close observation, drawing on systems thinking, craft traditions and interdisciplinary approaches that bridge art and science.

A central inquiry within her practice is the preciousness of ordinary moments and the ways they quietly become memory. Through projects such as Temporal Residue and Holdfast, she explores time through both intimate and ecological perspectives, asking how we might live differently if we recognised that any ordinary moment could be the last time we experience it. Whether considering the rhythms of motherhood or the fragile ecologies of seaweed and coastal environments, her work encourages deeper attention to the people, places and living systems that sustain us, drawing connections between care, memory and environmental responsibility.

Leza's practice creates immersive spaces that invite reflection, foster connection and reveal new layers of meaning through sustained attention. Bringing together material, sound and image, her work encourages audiences to slow down, engage deeply and consider the people, places and living systems that quietly shape our lives. By giving voice to experiences and ecologies that are often overlooked, she asks what we choose to value, protect and remember while there is still time.

Leza is the recipient of First Prize in Fine Art and achieved the highest marks in her cohort for three consecutive years at Curtin University, an unprecedented achievement within the Fine Art program. Her practice continues to evolve through ambitious interdisciplinary projects, research collaborations and immersive exhibition-making that explore time, materiality and the ethics of care.
